Day Trip to Dresden

Dresden, the "Florence on the Elbe", is less than two hours from Prague. One of the most beautiful cities in Germany, almost completely destroyed in the bombing of February 1945 and rebuilt stone by stone to its original splendour. This is an excursion that combines architectural beauty with one of the harshest stories of the 20th century.

What makes this visit unique is seeing with your own eyes how the Germans rebuilt entire buildings using original rubble: you will spot blackened stones from the bombing set alongside new ones in the façades, a contrast no photograph can convey.

We depart at 9:00 from Prague and in under 2 hours we are in Dresden. During the drive, the guide provides context on the history of Saxony and the events of the final days of the Second World War.

In Dresden, the guided tour covers the main sites of the historic centre: the Zwinger Gardens, the Catholic Cathedral, the Semper Opera House (Semperoper), the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), the Church of the Holy Cross (Kreuzkirche), the Brühl Terrace (Balcony of the Elbe), the Albertinum and the Procession of Princes, among others.

After the guided tour you have free time for lunch and souvenirs. The return time is agreed with the guide, and if everything goes to plan you will be back in Prague by around 18:00.
